AIMS: To disseminate knowledge related to intrapartum care in European countries, developing training, fostering research collaboration, promoting the development of technology, and elaborating international guidelines and clinical standards. To organize courses/ sessions within EAPM meetings. To organise the European Congress on Intrapartum Care (ECIC) every two years, under the umbrella of the EAPM.
MILESTONES 2026-2027: To develop European guidelines/position papers on the use of episiotomy, oxytocin augmentation and unnecessary caesareans. To organise the 2019 and 2021 European Congress of Intrapartum Care together with the European Midwives Association.
ANOMALIES OF THE PLACENTA AND UMBILICAL CORD

AIMS: To promote education and clinical science in the area of abnormal placentation and anomalies of placenta and cord development including:
- Placenta praevia
- Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS)
- Anomalies of the cord implantation and vasa praevia
- Placental vascular lesions
- Placental tumours and gestational trophoblastic disorders
We aim to improve the management outcome of these conditions by organising EAPM courses/workshops/webinar and by elaborating European guidelines on related specific topics. We also aim contribute a session to EAPM annual meeting and promote EAPM and our work to trainees and junior specialists and to EAPM statements.
MILESTONES 2026-2027: To develop EAPM statements for the diagnosis and management of placenta praevia and on complex caesarean section for placental-related complications

AIMS: To promote clinical science, research, policy and educational activities related to preterm birth and its consequences in European countries.
To promote interaction between the obstetrical and neonatal professions around the issue of preterm birth.
To develop and support research collaborations, promoting the enhancement of technology, and in cases where it is relevant, to take part or to lead the development of European recommendations and clinical standards.
To organize courses and sessions within EAPM meetings.
MILESTONES 2025-2028:
1. Promote Cutting-Edge Research: Facilitate collaboration among European researchers to explore innovative approaches to preterm birth prevention, management, and long-term care.
2. Standardize Care Practices: Develop and disseminate updated, evidence-based recommendations that ensure equitable access to high-quality care for preterm infants and their mothers across all European countries, addressing disparities where they exist.
3. Enhance Education and Training: Organize workshops, webinars, and conferences to equip healthcare professionals with the latest knowledge and skills in perinatal medicine.
4. Expand the Impact of the SIG: Increase the visibility and influence of the SIG by fostering collaboration with international organizations, patient advocacy groups, and other stakeholders who share our vision of reducing the burden of preterm birth globally.

MILESTONES 2025-2028: To develop European guidelines/position papers on hyperglycemia and obesity in pregnancy.
To organise special courses for hands on treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes, to establish a pump school for treatment of pregnant women with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion.

SPECTRUM OF OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA IN PREGNANCY (OSA)

AIMS: To produce evidence-based good practice guidelines for European clinicians and perinatal providers, supporting better identification, monitoring and management of sleep issues—especially the spectrum of obstructive sleep apnea and upper airway obstruction—during pregnancy. The SIG aims to define the spectrum and physiology of OSA/UAO in pregnancy, assess its impact on maternal, fetal and postpartum health, develop a pregnancy-specific screening tool, improve research methodology, and establish a multidisciplinary management approach.
MILESTONES 2026 – 2030:
- Introduce the SIG in the 2026 Poland EAPM Congress as a cross-discipline symposium to recruit more members, especially OBGYNs and neonatologists
- Publish joint position statement on managing the spectrum of OSA and UAO in pregnancy with EAPM, European Board and College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (EBCOG), and European Midwives Association (EMA)
- Establish European guidelines for sleep study protocols tailored to pregnant women
- Establish European guidelines for identifying and managing the spectrum of OSA and UAO during pregnancy
- Establish European guidelines for applying lifestyle interventions in the management of the spectrum of OSA and UAO during pregnancy
